Car License Plate Extraction and Recognition Technology (C.A.R.P.E.T)

C.A.R.P.E.T is a low-cost, platform independent, image processing system that identifies vehicles by their license plates. C.A.R.P.E.T offers many commercial advantages over existing systems in the market with net savings in both time and money. C.A.R.P.E.T is used in many application areas such as toll booths, parking decks, border control and law enforcement.

iShield™, iShieldPlus™ and ScreenShield Enterprise™ are our flagship products. Currently they are the only products on the market that detect pornography 'on-screen', meaning that pornography is captured regardless of its source and the application used to display it.

URLChecker

URLChecker, developed in association with the King Abdul Aziz City of Science & Technology, Saudi Arabia, is designed for use by agencies responsible for producing and maintaining lists of pornographic URLs. URLChecker automatically tests if given URLs are pornographic, and provides management and workflow facilities for handling large volumes of suspected porn URLs. This product has been implemented by the Saudi Arabian Government Agency to block a number of pornographic URLs and has resulted in large productivity gains.

iSMART

Commercially available timetabling software was unable to cope with the number of variables involved in APIIT's day-to-day operations, such as multiple centres, multiple intakes and the staggering of classes to avoid long queues at elevators. Thus we developed our own award winning software call iSMART, which is now being sold to other educational institutions.

Signature Recognition Engine (SIROX)

APIIT, in conjunction with NuMedia Sdn Bhd, developed a technology called SIROX that automatically verifies whether the signature on a bank cheque belongs to the person associated with that bank account.

With only one master signature for comparison, SIROX is able to achieve a false acceptance rate of 10% for seen forgeries. In other words, 90% of genuine signatures (by the same person) are correctly accepted, whilst 90% of attempts by other people to forge the signature (with the original signature in front of them) fail. SIROX's accuracy improves with an increasing number of master signatures in its database for comparison. In addition, SIROX has the ability to learn how signatures vary over time making it unnecessary to capture fresh sets of master signatures every few years.

SIROX was integrated into NuMedia's EzCheck cheque clearing software and was sold to banks across Southeast Asia.

Speech Tutor®

Learning to lip read traditionally requires the presence of an expert teacher, but such teachers are in short supply. Speech-Tutor®, our lip reading and pronunciation training aid, allows the deaf to learn in an interactive environment at their own pace. The application uses our own audio-visual speech synthesis and pronunciation technology. Speech-Tutor® is available at www.speech-tutor.co.uk.

Bahasa Melayu Interactive Learning Software

We have developed an interactive program to teach basic conversational Malay. The aid contains grammar lessons, pronunciation lessons, comprehension tests, dialogue tests and a dictionary. Most of the modules utilise the speech synthesis and speech analysis engines developed by us.
