If you are a UCTI student (Malaysian)
The English language requirements for UCTI students are:
  • AEB Test in English for Educational Purposes - Grade 3
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - Grade B
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - Grade C
  • Hong Kong Use of English Examination - Grade C and better
  • IELTS - 6.0

We work in collaboration with Adult Multicultural Education Services (AMES) to deliver AMES Best English (BE) courses that take students from beginners level to a level equivalent to IELTS 6.0. AMES Online is owned and endorsed by the State Government of Victoria, Australia. AMES Online, also endorsed by the Australian government to deliver English Language Education, understands your English language needs as it has been delivering English education for over 53 years. Our UCTI English Language Foundation Programme prepares you for your undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

Basic and Lower Intermediate English*:

The first two levels, Basic and Lower Intermediate, aim to assist you acquire the necessary language skills and improve your proficiency respectively. In doing this course you acquire the language and move on to improving your grammar, listening, conversation, reading and writing skills. The course will help improve your ability to use English Language confidently and competently in a variety of situations at work and study.

Upper Intermediate English*:

The Upper Intermediate level focuses on introducing study skills, research skills, academic writing skills and presentation skills which are crucial for a student's academic pursuit.

This course is delivered in blended mode using an online programme that takes you in the role of a first-year student studying at a typical university. You will meet a number of friends and work together as a small study group. The learning will focus on the sorts of places and activities typical of all universities. They include attending lectures, visiting library, writing assignments as well as socializing with your friends in the university café. Each topic provides many different opportunities to practice listening, speaking, reading, writing and study skills, all in an academic context. This is a realistic and comprehensive course that introduces you to student life and college education.

Advanced English*:

The Advanced level English incorporates an IELTS Preparation course that will prepare you to be proficient/competent users of English who will be able to combine language proficiency with academic skills to successfully pursue your college education and eventually go beyond with confidence. This course follows the format of IELTS very closely and prepares you to successfully attempt each part of the test with rich array of interactive learning material and by developing your English skills over a broad range of topics.

At the UCTI English Language Centre we have two types of part time courses, one that is 100% online and another that is delivered using the conventional classroom method.

With the online courses, we present you with the opportunity to study English using an innovative and effective method from the comfort of your home or workplace. This is made possible through our collaboration with AMES Online owned and endorsed by the State Government of Victoria, Australia. We have a wide range of online courses to suit your needs. In choosing our online courses you save time by not having to come to class, thus solving the problem of not having time which has deterred your progress thus far. No more worries about not having time or not being able to accommodate attending classes. The course follows the format of IELTS very closely and prepares you to successfully attempt each part of the test with rich array of interactive learning materials and by developing your English skills over a broad range of topics. All learning activities in this course have been designed by a team of IELTS teachers and examiners, using authentic materials and a wealth of tips and advice. The course is built around a series of characters and scenarios and Oska, your mentor, will guide you through your learning, introducing you to a diverse set of experiences as you go.

Executive Writing

Executive Writing provides a rich learning experience where students will develop a wide range of Executive Writing skills, all in the context of working at WebFurn, an Internet based furniture company.

On starting the course, you will take on a role as a Sales Manager at WebFurn. In this role you will learn how to interact in an executive business environment and build an understanding of both the language and the processes of business. You will be expected to read a variety of business texts and learn how to write them. You will also have the opportunity to listen to texts and to learn how to take notes from them. You will be invited to create presentations, resumes and a variety of other documents.

The course is designed around a set of tasks, with each task being broken into a number of activities. Whilst the course has been created to represent four weeks of work at WebFurn, it can of course, be completed at your own pace. You might choose to complete this short intensive course quickly, or to proceed more leisurely through the tasks.

Learning outcomes

  • read and understand business texts
  • write a range of business correspondence, including business emails, faxes, memos, letters, agendas, meeting notes, quotes, presentations and contracts of sale

Business English Certificate (Vantage)

Business English Certificate is designed to prepare you to pass the Cambridge BEC (Vantage) examination.

The course helps develop a wide range of business English skills all in the context of managing Rosebud Resort, a virtual health resort. On beginning this course, you will take on the role of a temporary employee who has been working in the office of Rosebud Resort for six months. However you are presented with an opportunity to move up to a permanent management position by taking part in Rosebud's Management Training Programme.

The Management Training Programme will give you the opportunity to learn how to interact in a business environment and build an understanding of both the language and the processes of business. You will be involved in reading a variety of business texts, writing emails and reports as well as giving presentations. You will also practice your listening skills by taking notes from phone messages and listening to meetings and conversations.

There are five different steps involved in the Management Training Programme, each with a specific business management focus. Each of these steps is broken into a variety of tasks so that you can build your skills gradually and with a virtual mentor to help you along the way.

This programme will employ an interactive-student-centred mode of delivery along with a process-oriented approach to help course participants develop and improve their academic writing and research skills. This course requires you to attend evening classes.
